Greece to digitize driver training, exams, and license plate management

The Greek Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport has signed a programmatic agreement worth €2,101,800 to digitize driver education, examinations, and license plate management. The project, implemented in collaboration with the Institute of Technological Research (ITE), is expected to be completed within 24 months.

A new information system will digitally monitor both theoretical and practical driver training, including attendance tracking and real-time oversight. For practical exams, the system will introduce digital recording, an electronic lottery for examiners, and a mechanism for managing objections to enhance transparency and reduce irregular practices.

Additionally, the initiative includes a mobile and tablet application to help candidates learn the Highway Code through interactive tests and simulations. The project also aims to digitize the management of license plate stocks and their distribution to ensure clearer, more controllable processes.
