Greece to establish National Model Dementia Center in Peristeri
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has signed a contract for the establishment of the National Model Dementia Center in Peristeri. The facility is designed to act as a national hub for research, specialized services, and the dissemination of best practices regarding dementia and related cognitive disorders.
The center aims to provide monitoring, personalized care, and guidance for caregivers, with full operational capabilities expected by 2027. Mitsotakis emphasized the importance of the project in combating the social stigma associated with the disease and addressing the needs of an aging population.
The project includes the creation of a Center of Excellence and is supported by a 5.5 million euro donation from major Greek charitable foundations. The location in Peristeri was selected to improve healthcare access in western Athens suburbs.
