Greece to establish new Ethics and Technology Research Center
Greece's Ministry of Development has announced plans to establish a new Research Center for Ethics and Technology. The announcement was made by Deputy Minister Stavros Kalafatis during the 90th Thessaloniki International Fair, in the presence of Japan's Deputy Director General, Honda Taro.
The initiative is part of a broader strategy of national and European scientific diplomacy, emphasizing bilateral cooperation with Japan and the concept of ‘Takumi’, which refers to dedication to craftsmanship and perfection.
Kalafatis also highlighted significant growth in Greece's research and development sector. Total R&D spending has reached 3.66 billion euros, a 67.7% increase since 2018, positioning Greece fourth in the EU for state R&D expenditures. Additionally, the country has seen the creation of over 20,000 high-specialization jobs, with 86% of new PhD holders choosing to remain in Greece. The Elevate Greece program has also surpassed 1,000 registered startups.
