Greece to evaluate health region administrators
The Greek Ministry of Health is set to conduct formal performance evaluations of the seven Health Region (YPE) administrators and their deputy directors by the end of August. This process, mandated by the Kerameus law, occurs at the midpoint of their four-year terms to ensure compliance with the contractual obligations established during their ASEP recruitment process.
The evaluation will scrutinize various aspects of their leadership, including changes made to regional hospitals, instructions provided to hospital directors to improve nursing conditions, and management of financial resources amidst the National Health Service (ESY) debt issues. Additionally, staff transfers, particularly those involving island regions prior to the summer period, will be reviewed.
While hospital directors are also scheduled for evaluation after completing two years of service, their reviews are expected to take place closer to the national elections. Some reports suggest the YPE evaluations may be largely procedural, as the current administration may be reluctant to replace leadership ahead of upcoming elections.
