Greece to offer free entry to 126 archaeological sites for August full moon

Greece will host its 27th annual August Full Moon celebration, offering free admission to 126 archaeological sites, historical locations, monuments, and museums across the country. The primary event is scheduled for Friday, August 28, 2026, though festivities will extend from August 26 through August 30.

During the peak night of the full moon, many sites will be open from approximately 19:30 or 20:00 until midnight. The program includes live music, theatrical performances, dance events, exhibitions, and guided tours. Notable locations participating include the sanctuary of Delphi, the birthplace of the Olympic Games in Ancient Olympia, and the medieval ghost town of Mystras near Sparta.

In Athens, the Acropolis Museum will remain open continuously from 9:00 until midnight. While standard admission fees apply to permanent collections, visitors can access the temporary exhibition ‘Inspiration: Ancient Greek Art in Italy’ for free. This exhibition features 38 significant works in ceramic, bronze, and marble from various Italian museums.
