Greece launches national breast cancer prevention initiatives
Greece is conducting widespread breast cancer awareness and prevention initiatives throughout October. The national 'Prolamvano' program has entered a new phase, offering free preventive screenings, including mammographies, to eligible women. Deputy Health Minister Eirini Agapidakis noted that the program has already identified 6,000 cases of early-stage breast cancer. Eligible women, including 2.7 million in the 55-69 age group, can access these services using their AMKA number or via the proliptikes.gov.gr platform.
Local communities across the country are also organizing events. In Pieria, the Panathinaiki Women's Organization held an awareness campaign in Katerini. In Preveza, the Association of Northern Epirots and the Municipality organized an event titled 'Prevention is Strength.' In the Tempi municipality, six villages are collaborating on a symbolic walk to promote early diagnosis. Additionally, specialized medical centers are being established in public hospitals, such as Themaggio and Agios Savvas, to create a comprehensive network for breast cancer treatment.
