Greece to Open 126 Heritage Sites for Free on Aug 28 Full‑Moon Festival
The Greek Ministry of Culture is organising the 2026 "August Full Moon" programme. On Friday 28 August 2026, 126 archaeological sites, historic locations, monuments and museums across the country will welcome visitors with free admission. Sixty‑one venues will host special cultural events, while an additional 65 sites will stay open each evening from 19:30 to 23:00 (or 24:00). The festivities continue on 26, 27, 29 and 30 August, featuring theatre performances, concerts, dance shows, exhibitions and guided tours, coordinated by the General Directorate of Antiquities and Cultural Heritage together with regional and local authorities.
The Acropolis Museum will extend its opening hours from 09:00 to midnight on the night of the full moon and will offer free entry to the temporary exhibition "Inspiration – Ancient Greek Art in Italy". Guided tours of the exhibition will be available at 18:00, requiring online reservation. The museum’s upper‑floor restaurant will also remain open until midnight, and the Museum of the Excavations will operate from 09:00 to 20:00.
