Greece to implement annual inflation-linked disability benefit increases from 2027

Starting in 2027, Greece will implement a permanent mechanism to adjust disability benefits annually based on inflation and GDP. This policy aims to protect the purchasing power of approximately 218,000 beneficiaries by ensuring that benefit amounts are no longer static but instead follow price developments.

The measure, which was part of a social policy package presented at the Economic Forum, is expected to provide an average annual benefit of 220 euros per recipient. The adjustments will apply to various forms of assistance, including mobility allowances and disability pensions.

Additionally, a National Registry of Benefits and Allowances will be established to consolidate all insurance and welfare provisions into a single database. This shift moves away from occasional, one-off financial boosts toward a structured, automatic adjustment system.
