Greece to implement new car first aid kit standards in 2027

Starting January 1, 2027, new regulations in Greece will mandate specific standards for first aid kits in all motor vehicles, excluding two-wheelers. According to Manolis Katsarakis, General Secretary of the Panhellenic Pharmaceutical Association, the new kits must contain at least 16 different types of medical-technological products in specific quantities.

Required items include elastic bandages of various sizes, wound and burn dressings, fixation bandages, securing materials, an isothermal blanket, cleaning wipes, masks, and first aid instructions. The regulations emphasize that a simple kit with only gauze and alcohol is no longer sufficient. Kits must bear the DIN 13164:2022 marking on the external packaging, while individual components like sterile gauze must carry the CE mark.

Drivers are advised to inspect their current kits before the end of 2026 to ensure they meet the new requirements regarding content, quantity, and expiration dates. The kits must be stored in a protected location that is easily accessible and resistant to dust, moisture, and temperature fluctuations. Notably, the kits are not intended to contain medications, as high temperatures inside vehicles can compromise their safety.
