Greece implements new wage transparency and equal pay laws

Greece is implementing new labor regulations following Law 5316/2026, which incorporates the European Directive on wage transparency and equal pay for men and women. Starting November 1, employers must include the offered salary or a salary range in all job advertisements posted in newspapers or online.

Under the new framework, employers are required to maintain documented, written salary structures based on objective, gender-neutral criteria such as skills, responsibility, and working conditions. This is intended to ensure equal pay for work of equal value. Additionally, job advertisements must be gender-neutral and are prohibited from mentioning gender or family status.

The law also introduces several protections for employees:

• Employers are forbidden from asking candidates about their previous salary during interviews. • Employees have the right to discuss their wages with colleagues without fear of sanctions. • Workers may request written information regarding their individual pay levels and the average pay for men and women in similar roles.

Companies are also mandated to submit data regarding the gender pay gap, bonuses, and employee categories based on their size. Larger companies (250+ employees) must report annually, while smaller groups have different reporting frequencies.
