Greece to implement permanent disability benefit increases

A new legislative proposal from the Ministry of National Economy and Finance introduces a permanent mechanism for adjusting disability benefits in Greece. Starting January 1, 2027, these benefits will be linked to the annual pension increase rate.

Under the proposed Article 21, the adjustment rate is calculated based on the sum of the average annual inflation and 50% of the annual real GDP growth rate. The government currently estimates this coefficient to be 2.8% for 2027. This mechanism aims to ensure regular adjustments without requiring separate legislative interventions for each increase.

Based on the projected 2.8% increase, monthly adjustments for basic benefits are expected to range from approximately 4.98 euros for mobility allowances to 23.69 euros for full extra-curricular allowances.
