Greece to implement ‘right to be forgotten’ for cancer survivors
Greek Development Minister Takis Theodorakakos announced the legislative implementation of the ‘right to be forgotten’ for cancer survivors. Starting November 20, a previous cancer diagnosis will no longer be taken into account for insurance coverage related to consumer loyalty, provided that five years have passed since the completion of treatment.
While European directives allowed for a period of up to fifteen years, the Greek government opted for a five-year threshold to ensure survivors receive a ‘new beginning with equal opportunities.’ This initiative follows previous discussions between the Minister of Development, the Minister of National Economy and Finance, and the President of the Hellenic Cancer Federation (ELLOK) to prevent discrimination and exclusion in the insurance market.
