Greece to introduce simplified rules for balcony solar panels

The Greek Ministry of Environment and Energy is finalizing a regulatory framework to allow the use of balcony solar panels. This new regulation will introduce a specific regime for plug-in solar systems, enabling small-scale solar production with an injection capacity of up to 800 Watts.

Designed as a low-cost solution for consumers unable to install conventional solar systems, the final ministerial decision aims to reduce technical and bureaucratic requirements. Unlike previous drafts that required significant electrical installations and higher costs, the updated framework seeks to allow these systems to function within existing electrical setups with minimal intervention.

Installation will involve a simplified digital notification process to the Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator (DEDDIE), ensuring technical safety and grid stability while maintaining the ease of use characteristic of plug-in products.
