Greece prepares economic package for Thessaloniki International Fair
Ahead of the 90th Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF), the Greek government is preparing an extensive economic package aimed at boosting incomes and reducing tax burdens. A central component of the plan is the gradual abolition of the presumptive taxation system for approximately 700,000 freelancers and self-employed individuals. This reform is expected to be linked to improved tax compliance through digital tools and measurable indicators.
The package also targets the middle class, pensioners, and families, with potential measures including increased tax-free thresholds for parents and adjustments to the minimum wage. The government aims to implement these permanent measures through 2030 while maintaining fiscal stability. Additionally, Greece is pursuing a significant reduction in public debt, with plans for approximately 13 billion euros in early repayments this year.
In the immediate term, e-EFKA and DYPA are scheduled to distribute approximately 2.48 billion euros to over 4.3 million beneficiaries between August 24 and 28, 2026. This includes September pension payments, unemployment benefits, and maternity allowances.
