Greece to increase birth allowance for large families

Greece is introducing an increased birth allowance for large families, providing an additional 1,000 euros for each child beyond the fourth. Under the current system, the benefit for families with four or more children is capped at 3,500 euros.

The new progressive scale, effective for births occurring from January 1, 2026, removes this cap. For example, a family with four dependent children will receive 4,500 euros, five children will receive 5,500 euros, and seven children will receive 7,500 euros. The amount will continue to increase by 1,000 euros for every additional child.

This policy change is expected to affect approximately 2,500 large families annually. The regulation also allows for potential retroactive payments for families who have children within the 2026 calendar year, provided they meet the necessary requirements.
