Greece to increase tax-free tip threshold to €6,000 annually

The Greek Ministry of National Economy and Finance is proposing a new regulation to increase the tax-exempt limit for tips received by employees in the tourism, hospitality, and delivery sectors. Under the proposed legislation, the annual tax-free threshold for voluntary tips will rise to €6,000.

Currently, the exemption is capped at €300 per month, totaling €3,600 annually. The new measure shifts from a monthly cap to an annual one, which significantly benefits seasonal workers. For example, a worker earning €1,000 in tips per month for six months would previously have only been able to exempt €1,800, but will now be able to exempt the full €6,000.

The exemption applies to salaried employees as well as those working under independent service or project contracts. However, it does not cover payments that are structured as a fixed percentage of wages or a set amount determined by employment contracts or collective agreements.
