Greece to implement seven tax reliefs for professionals by 2027

The Greek government is planning seven tax reliefs for professionals and sole proprietorships to be implemented by 2027. This strategy aims to reduce the burden on compliant taxpayers by leveraging digital monitoring tools like myDATA to replace horizontal presumptive income criteria.

Key changes include the abolition of two major surcharges: a 10% increase based on total payroll costs and a 5% increase based on turnover exceeding the industry average. For compliant professionals, tax burdens could drop from approximately 5,500 euros to 1,500 euros. To qualify, businesses must ensure proper myDATA reporting, POS and cash register integration, and have no tax or labor violations within the last five years.

Approximately 755,000 sole proprietorships are subject to this framework, with about 156,000 specifically affected by the surcharges slated for removal. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis noted that increased digital visibility allows tax authorities to understand real financial statuses, making unnecessary surcharges obsolete.
