Greece to launch €450 million SME support programs

Greek Development Minister Takis Theodorakakos has announced three new support programs for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), totaling €450 million. Each of the three upcoming regimes, expected to be announced by the end of the year, will have a budget of €150 million.

The programs will focus on three primary pillars: SME export orientation, modern technologies and Artificial Intelligence, and social entrepreneurship. The initiative aims to bridge the gap between scientific research and production to foster a more competitive and productive economy.

Additionally, a €17 million joint initiative between the Ministry of Development and the Attica Region, funded by the Attica Regional Program, was presented. This specific fund is designed to finance partnerships between businesses and research organizations to help SMEs develop innovative products and services.

Minister Theodorakakos emphasized the importance of creating high-quality, well-paid jobs for young scientists to encourage them to remain and work in Greece. He also stressed the need for speed, objectivity, and transparency in the evaluation process, noting that investment plans under the Development Law should be assessed within 90 days.
