Greece to launch digital student housing and co-living platform

The Greek Ministry of Education is developing a digital platform to facilitate student housing and co-living arrangements. Part of the National Housing Strategy 2026-2035, the initiative aims to reduce living costs for students by connecting property owners with students seeking accommodation or potential roommates.

Key features of the plan include the possibility of providing state guarantees to landlords to mitigate risks regarding unpaid rent or property damage, which is intended to encourage more properties to enter the student rental market. The platform, scheduled for implementation around 2028 with HEDYKA as a technical partner, will allow students to search for both housing and compatible roommates.

Data cited by the Ministry indicates that while co-living is a dominant practice in many European countries, it remains limited in Greece, where fewer than 25% of students living away from home share accommodation. The project seeks to alleviate the pressure on small apartments in university cities like Athens, Thessaloniki, Patras, and Heraklion by promoting shared living spaces.
