Greece to offer free access to 126 archaeological sites for August full moon

The Greek Ministry of Culture will host its 27th annual celebration of the August full moon, offering free admission to 126 archaeological sites, monuments, and museums across the country.

The main event is scheduled for Friday, August 28, 2026. Many locations will extend their hours into the night, typically from around 7:30 PM or 8:00 PM until midnight. Among the highlights are the ancient sanctuary of Delphi, where visitors can access the Temple of Apollo terrace, and ancient Olympia, which will offer guided tours led by archaeologists.

In Athens, the Acropolis Museum will remain open from 9:00 AM until midnight, including access to the temporary exhibition ‘Inspirations. Ancient Greek Art living in Italy’. Additionally, 61 of the participating sites will host cultural activities such as theatrical performances, concerts, dance events, and guided tours. Other notable locations include the medieval city of Mystras near Sparta and the Nekromanteion of Acheron in Epirus. The celebrations are expected to span several evenings from August 26 to August 30.
