Greece to pay €4.8 million in flood compensation to farmers

Greek Minister of Rural Development and Food, Margaritis Schoinas, has announced the immediate disbursement of €4.8 million in compensation for farmers in the Tenaghy Philippon region who were affected by flooding. The announcement followed a meeting in the municipality of Pangeo with agricultural associations and local stakeholders.

During the meeting, discussions also addressed the progress of the Marmara dam construction, damage to table grape crops caused by downy mildew, and compensation for producers in Platanotopos whose crops were impacted by firefighting efforts during the 2024 wildfires.

Minister Schoinas stated that a Joint Ministerial Decision regarding the flood compensation is expected to be signed immediately to facilitate payments. He noted that while this compensation is a necessary first step, a broader geological study of the area is required to find a long-term solution to the flooding issues.
