Greece disburses 4.8 million euros in rent aid to public sector workers
The Greek Ministry of National Economy and Finance, alongside the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE), has completed the automatic disbursement of rent reimbursements to 17,074 educators and healthcare professionals. The total amount distributed is 4,885,310.75 euros, credited directly to recipients' IBANs.
The aid covers rent paid during 2024 for approximately 50,000 eligible public employees serving in regional areas. Eligible categories include permanent and substitute teachers, special education staff, doctors, dentists, nurses, and ambulance crews (EKAB). To qualify, recipients must have served in regions outside of the Attica Prefecture (excluding the Islands Regional Unit) and outside the Thessaloniki Metropolitan Unit. Additionally, the rented residence must be located within the same regional unit where the individual serves.
The reimbursement amount is equivalent to up to two months of rent, with a maximum cap of 1,600 euros per year. Payments were processed automatically based on income tax declarations, lease information from AADE, and service records from the Ministry of Interior. A subsequent payment for 2025 rents is expected by the end of November 2026.
