Greece to reduce presumptive income tax for self-employed professionals
The Greek economic team is implementing tax reforms to reduce the presumptive income burden for tax-compliant self-employed professionals. Starting from the 2026 tax year, two major increases linked to payroll costs and business turnover will be abolished.
This measure, announced by the Prime Minister at the Thessaloniki International Fair, aims to correct systemic distortions made possible by the digitalization of the economy through tools like myDATA. For approximately 156,000 professionals, the increases related to turnover exceeding the sector average and payroll costs exceeding 10% of annual costs will be eliminated in 2027 tax filings.
Significant benefits are expected for roughly 45,100 professionals, with individual tax savings ranging from 1,000 to 4,000 euros per year. The regulation particularly benefits sole proprietorships employing staff, such as those in the retail and catering sectors.
