Greece to reduce presumptive income taxes for self-employed
The Greek Ministry of Finance has announced new measures to reduce presumptive income assessments for self-employed professionals. The reforms aim to eliminate two specific surcharges: a 10% increase based on annual payroll costs and a 5% increase based on the difference between a business's turnover and the average turnover for its specific economic activity code (KAD).
These changes are expected to benefit approximately 155,000 professionals, representing about four in ten self-employed individuals. The Ministry of Finance estimates the total tax reduction resulting from these measures will reach 884 million euros. The new rules are scheduled to take effect during the tax filing period from March to July 2027.
To qualify for these reductions, professionals must meet certain consistency criteria. These include submitting required data through the myDATA system, maintaining continuous connectivity between POS terminals and cash registers where applicable, and avoiding specific tax penalties. The minimum income base remains tied to the minimum wage.
