Greece implements labor and tax reforms for 2026-2027

Greece is implementing several economic and labor market changes. Starting April 1, 2027, private sector employees will see a permanent reduction in social security contributions from 13.37% to 12.87%. This 0.5 percentage point decrease is designed to increase net wages, with annual benefits ranging from 70 to 210 euros depending on gross salary.

In contrast, self-employed individuals and farmers face potential increases in social security contributions in 2027. Based on an estimated 3.8% inflation adjustment, professionals could see monthly increases of up to 25.68 euros, while farmers may face monthly increases of up to 15.38 euros.

Additionally, the Ministry of National Economy and Finance is introducing reforms to reduce imputed income for small businesses employing staff, provided they meet specific criteria. Meanwhile, the agricultural sector has seen a significant surge in seasonal worker applications, rising 87.2% in the first nine months of 2026 compared to the previous year, driven largely by bilateral agreements with Egypt, India, and the Philippines.

On the consumer side, the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) will conduct its September tax lottery in late October, offering prizes between 1,000 and 50,000 euros for electronic transactions.
