Greece to regulate anti-aging and longevity therapies

The Greek Ministry of Health is moving to establish a stricter regulatory framework for anti-aging and longevity therapies. Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis announced that a committee of experts will be formed within the week to examine the current status of regenerative medicine and longevity practices. The goal is to distinguish scientifically validated medical procedures from those lacking sufficient evidence or conducted in inadequate facilities.

The initiative also targets the regulation of medical advertising, particularly on social media, where scientific information is sometimes used to indirectly promote unverified treatments. One proposal under consideration is requiring prior review by Medical Associations before certain therapies or scientific claims are publicly promoted.

In relation to these discussions, medical experts have clarified the nature of therapeutic plasma exchange. Professor Thanos Dimopoulos explained that this is a serious medical procedure used to remove macromolecular compounds, such as antibodies or immune complexes, from the plasma. He emphasized that due to its risks, such procedures must be performed in a hospital environment rather than a private clinic.
