Greece to relaunch ‘Proilamvano’ preventive screening program
The Greek Ministry of Health is preparing to relaunch the ‘Proilamvano’ (I Prevent) program using national funding. The second phase of the initiative aims to provide free preventive screenings to over 6 million citizens.
Targeted screenings include breast, cervical, and colorectal cancers, as well as cardiovascular diseases, kidney dysfunction, and obesity. The Ministry is currently finalizing the necessary ministerial decisions for each specific program, with the decision regarding breast cancer screenings expected to be issued first.
During the initial phase of the program, which was funded by the Recovery Fund, approximately 6.9 million citizens underwent screenings. This phase resulted in the early detection of serious conditions in 300,000 individuals. Specifically, over 3.2 million cardiovascular checks were conducted, leading to the early identification of more than 76,000 people requiring specialized care for ischemic or coronary disease.
