Greece restarts ‘Proilvano’ national preventive health program
Greece is relaunching its national preventive health program, ‘Proilvano’, on October 13. Now established as a permanent national health policy funded by domestic resources, the program is scheduled to continue through 2030.
The initial phase focuses on breast cancer prevention during October, offering free digital mammographies and ultrasounds to both insured and uninsured women aged 45 to 74. Following this, the program will expand to include cardiovascular disease screenings. Participants can schedule appointments via the proliptikes.gov.gr platform using their AMKA number, or receive referrals via SMS if they have activated digital prescribing. Mobile health teams will also provide services in regional areas.
Deputy Health Minister Eirini Agapidakis reported that previous phases of the program successfully identified over 554,000 cases early. Specific findings included over 6,000 early-stage breast cancer diagnoses, 1,536 colorectal cancer cases, and 93 cervical cancer diagnoses. Additionally, approximately 350,000 individuals were identified with cardiovascular findings, with 1,200 requiring immediate angioplasty.
