Greece to restart free obesity medication program in November
The Greek Ministry of Health has announced the resumption of its adult obesity treatment program, scheduled to restart in November. The initiative will provide up to eight additional doses of approved weight-loss medications to 43,500 citizens who are already enrolled in the program.
Deputy Health Minister Eirini Agapidakis stated that treating physicians will determine the exact dosage and frequency based on individual patient progress. Beneficiaries will be able to consult their doctors free of charge to evaluate the continuation of their pharmaceutical treatment.
The program's restart is currently in the final administrative stages. Key pending actions include negotiations between the National Organization for the Provision of Health Services (EOPYY) and pharmaceutical companies, as well as the issuance of a Joint Ministerial Decision. Once finalized, beneficiaries are expected to be notified via SMS.
