Greece to resume free obesity medication program in November
The Greek Ministry of Health has announced the resumption of a program providing free obesity medications for 43,500 existing beneficiaries. The program, which had been suspended for five months following the conclusion of the Recovery Fund's involvement in June, will now be funded through national resources via EOPYY.
Beneficiaries will receive notifications via SMS during November. To rejoin the program, patients must first visit a doctor, who will determine the necessary dosage and timing. The Ministry stated that patients can receive up to eight doses in total.
Currently, the program is limited to former patients who were previously covered under the Recovery Fund. The government has not yet clarified the status of new patients seeking access to these medications. Additionally, reports indicate that pharmaceutical companies providing these treatments may be required to provide mandatory discounts of approximately 45%, a move that has met with opposition from the industry.
