Greece to upgrade prison security with anti-drone and X-ray systems
Greece is implementing a major security upgrade across its correctional facilities to prevent the entry of prohibited items and substances. The project, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2026, has been allocated 3,703,260 euros following approval from Deputy Minister of National Economy and Finance Athanasios Petralias.
The contract has been awarded to the company KT.YP.A.E. The upgrade includes the installation of 48 magnetic gates, 19 dual-view X-ray devices (60x40), 17 single-view X-ray devices (100x100), and 87 portable metal detectors.
To combat the use of unmanned aerial vehicles, the General Secretariat of Anti-Criminal Policy will also procure anti-drone systems from the Armed Forces. This measure specifically targets the unauthorized dropping of contraband via drones into prison grounds. Additionally, the Ministry of Citizen Protection noted that funding has already been secured for the construction of 11 new correctional facilities nationwide.
