Greece tourism faces price shock and visitor decline amid regional competition

A Croatian visitor reported paying 52 euros for a dinner for four in Greece, a price he described as far lower than the 100‑euro meals typical in Croatia. The comment highlighted a perceived price advantage for Greek restaurants, prompting criticism from Croatia's tourism ministry.

At the same time, Greece is experiencing an 8‑10% drop in tourist arrivals compared with the same period last year, a decline attributed partly to uncertainty stemming from the Persian Gulf crisis. Industry leaders note that the current season is weak for both the Greek and global tourism sectors, despite promotional discounts and price cuts that have had limited effect.

Polish travel data shows that Greece, alongside Spain and Italy, remains a top summer destination for Polish tourists, while Croatia continues to attract growing numbers of Polish visitors. The contrasting experiences underscore broader regional competition and shifting visitor expectations across the European tourism market.
