Greece tourism sees rising autumn bookings despite summer fluctuations

The Greek tourism sector is experiencing fluctuations in the current season, with a notable shift in demand toward the autumn months. While July and August saw lower occupancy levels than in previous years, bookings for September, October, and early November are showing an upward trend of approximately 6% to 7%.

In Crete, industry representatives note that businesses are adjusting prices downward to attract more visitors during the fall. Demand is also being bolstered by school holidays in key foreign markets, such as Germany. Regional data shows strong dynamics in Crete, which recorded 3.2 million international arrivals from January to July, a 7.2% increase. Specifically, Chania saw an 11.3% rise, while Heraklion grew by 5.6%.

Nationally, Greece recorded 15.7 million international arrivals between January and July, a 3.6% increase compared to the same period last year. While major destinations like Mykonos and Santorini show varying intensities, other regions such as the Ionian Islands (up 6.6%), Kalamata (up 20.8%), and Samos (up 19.5%) are experiencing significant growth.
