Greece tourism shifts toward autumn as travelers avoid summer heat

Tourism patterns in Greece are shifting as travelers increasingly avoid the peak summer months of July and August. Driven by extreme summer temperatures, high prices, and crowded destinations, many tourists are opting for the shoulder seasons.

Data shows that international arrivals in the first five months of the year rose by 20.9 percent compared to the previous year. There is a noticeable trend of increasing visitor numbers in May, June, September, and October, while the share of travelers in July and August is declining.

In support of this seasonal extension, airlines have scheduled approximately 3.6 million seats to Greece for October, an increase of about 600,000 seats compared to the same month last year. A study by Fitch Solutions indicates that Greece is successfully implementing strategies to distribute tourism more evenly throughout the year, helping to utilize hotel capacities over a longer period.
