Greece: Trial over Tempi train crash video footage adjourned

A court in Larissa has adjourned the trial concerning the management of video footage from the commercial train involved in the 2023 Tempi railway accident. The proceedings are scheduled to resume on November 13 after the court rejected an adjournment request submitted by defense lawyers for an official from Interstar Security.

The case involves allegations of document smuggling and disobedience against the Interstar official. Additionally, the former chairman of the Hellenic Railways Organization (OSE) and the subsequent CEO face charges of complicity in document smuggling and disobedience.

The investigation focuses on the handling of video material from the Thessaloniki Freight Station, specifically the failure to provide certain videos and the overwriting of data on a digital hard drive in the months following the accident. These actions reportedly made it impossible to recover the footage when it was eventually handed over to the appellate investigator in the summer of 2023.
