Greece unemployment rate falls to 8.1% in May 2026

The Hellenic Statistical Authority reported that Greece's unemployment rate declined to 8.1% in May 2026, down from a revised 9.1% in April 2025 and 10.1% in March 2026. The number of unemployed persons stood at 383,740, a reduction of 29,643 compared with May 2025 (‑7.2%) and 48,028 fewer than in April 2026 (‑11.1%).

Female unemployment rose to 11.7% from 10.6% a year earlier, while male unemployment fell to 5% from 7.2% a year earlier. Among 15‑24‑year‑olds, unemployment dropped to 16.8% from 20.7% a year earlier; for ages 25‑74 it was 7.6% versus 8% a year earlier. Employment rose to 4,353,357 persons, an increase of 20,712 compared with May 2025 and 18,654 versus April 2026. The population not in the labour force (those neither working nor seeking work) numbered 2,979,634, down 24,552 from May 2025 but up 25,121 from April 2026.
