Greece updates traffic rules and Egnatia Odos speed limits
New traffic regulations in Greece have clarified the rules regarding orange traffic lights. Under the updated Highway Code, drivers are generally required to stop at an orange light before a pedestrian crossing or at a visible point if no crossing is present. However, an exception exists: if a vehicle is too close to the signal to stop safely without abrupt braking, the driver may proceed. Violating these rules carries a 30 euro administrative fine.
Meanwhile, significant changes are affecting the Egnatia Odos highway. Due to ongoing construction and safety measures, the Ioannina Police Directorate has implemented new speed limits and lane restrictions. Specifically, at the connection between the Ionian Odos and Egnatia Odos toward Igoumenitsa, the speed limit has been reduced from 60 km/h to 30 km/h. Additionally, signage changes are being implemented near the Dodoni Tunnel to manage lane closures and vehicle merging more effectively.
