Greece updates university admission rules for competitive exams

Greek Deputy Minister of Education Nikos Papaioannou has clarified new regulations regarding university admissions via competitive entrance exams for degree holders. Under the upcoming framework, candidates must achieve a minimum total score of 30 points and a minimum of 10 points in each individual subject to be ranked.

Crucially, the Deputy Minister stated that vacant university positions can no longer be filled by candidates who meet the 30-point total threshold but fail to reach the 10-point minimum in any specific subject. This change follows the repeal of previous legislation and the issuance of a new Ministerial Decision.

These specific requirements are set to take effect starting from the competitive examinations for the 2026-2027 academic year. The announcement was made in a written response to a parliamentary inquiry by MP Sofia Asimakopoulou regarding the consistent application of admission laws and the transparency of examination results.
