Greece water reserves increase 41.5% year-on-year
Water reserves in Greece's major reservoirs have seen a significant year-on-year increase, though long-term levels remain substantially lower than historical benchmarks. According to EYDAP data as of September 17, 2026, total reserves reached 597,211,000 cubic meters, representing a 41.5% increase compared to the 422,114,000 cubic meters recorded exactly one year prior.
This growth is even more pronounced when compared to the start of the hydrological year on October 1, 2025, when reserves stood at 402,160,000 cubic meters. Since then, levels have risen by approximately 48.5%, providing a larger buffer for the upcoming hydrological period across the four primary reservoirs: Mornos, Evinos, Yliki, and Marathon.
Despite this recent improvement, the data highlights a severe long-term decline. Compared to September 17, 2019, when reserves were at 1,204,686,000 cubic meters, current levels represent a 50.4% decrease, or a loss of approximately 607.5 million cubic meters of water.
