Greece weather forecast predicts warmer September and rising August temperatures

Meteorological forecasts for Greece indicate a period of rising temperatures and shifting wind patterns. For the month of September, Meteo (the meteorological service of the National Observatory of Athens) and the Copernicus climate service predict temperatures potentially 1 to 2 degrees Celsius above the 1993-2016 reference period. While increased rainfall is also projected, experts note that long-term forecasts carry significant uncertainty regarding local conditions.

In the immediate term, meteorologist Thodoris Kolydas predicts a rise in temperatures through late August, with Athens and Thessaloniki potentially reaching 36–37°C by August 22–25. Additionally, wind speeds in the Aegean are expected to increase between August 23 and 27, particularly in the Central Aegean and near Kaphireas, with gusts potentially exceeding 40 knots at Cape Doro. Following this peak, a gradual decline in temperature is anticipated.
