Greece weather forecast shows heat spike and strong winds
Greece is experiencing a period of weather instability characterized by a temporary transition between summer heat and autumnal patterns. While recent days have seen sporadic rains and thunderstorms in mountainous mainland areas, meteorologists predict a significant return to summer-like conditions over the coming weekend.
Temperatures are expected to rise sharply, with some regions potentially reaching 38-39 degrees Celsius. Strong northern winds, known as meltemia, are forecast for the Aegean Sea, with gusts reaching up to 7 or 8 Beaufort, increasing the risk of wildfires in island regions and Crete. Additionally, increased concentrations of African dust are expected to affect the atmosphere in the Aegean and Crete.
A more definitive shift toward autumnal weather, featuring organized disturbances and lower temperatures, is anticipated around September 11-13, following this brief heat spike.
