Greece faces high wildfire risk across multiple regions

Greece is facing a period of high wildfire risk, with the General Secretariat for Civil Protection issuing Category 3 alerts for numerous regions including Attica, Boeotia, Euboea, Corinthia, Argolis, Achaea, Ilia, Messenia, and several islands such as the Dodecanese, Crete, and Chios.

Multiple active fires have been reported. In Mytilene, a fire in Paleokipis has been contained and is expected to be brought under control shortly. In Paros, a fire in the Lefkes area was contained following a significant response from ground and air forces, including firefighters from Syros and Naxos. In Euboea, a fire in Aliveri triggered 112 emergency alerts, prompting residents to remain on standby. Other active incidents include fires in Chalkidiki and Konitsa.

Authorities have issued strict warnings to citizens to avoid any outdoor activities that could cause accidental fires, such as burning dry vegetation, using machinery that produces sparks, or using outdoor grills. In Messenia, specific bans on vehicle traffic and camping are in effect for NATURA protected areas and forest ecosystems.
