Greece wind power exceeds 6 GW with 400 million‑euro investment

The Greek Scientific Association of Wind Energy (ELTAEN) reported that installed wind capacity reached 6.017 GW by the end of the first half of 2026, a 5.6% rise from the end of 2025. The increase includes 65 newly connected turbines supplying 320.6 MW and represents roughly €400 million of investment.

About 700 MW of new wind farms are under construction, with most expected to be connected within the next 18 months, pushing total capacity beyond 6.5 GW within 1.5 years. Central Greece remains the leading region with 2,603 MW (43.3% of national capacity), followed by the Peloponnese (819 MW) and Eastern Macedonia‑Thrace (535 MW). The top five operators are TERNA Energy (1,040.3 MW), MORE (796.4 MW), Principia (514.1 MW), Iberdrola Rokas (409.2 MW) and DEI Renewable (319.2 MW). ELTAEN noted a slowdown in new installations due to licensing delays, with only 75% of projects selected in 2018‑2022 now operational, and compensation for delayed projects lower than the cost of gas generation.
