Greece national volleyball teams win opening matches at Mediterranean Games

The Greek national volleyball teams achieved successful starts at the Mediterranean Games in Taranto. Both the men's and women's squads secured victories against Kosovo in their opening matches.

The women's team won 3-0 with set scores of 27-25, 25-21, and 25-15. Despite a competitive first set where Kosovo reached a set point, Greece regained control through strong serving from Tzina Lamprousi and key plays by Nasia Fakopoulidou and Asimina Nikologianni. Top scorers for the Greek side included Zioga with 14 points, Nikologianni with 13, and Kathariou with 11.

The men's team also prepared for their tournament debut following a period of intensive training. The Mediterranean Games athletes are being hosted on the cruise ship Aroya, which is anchored at the naval base in Taranto, serving as a floating Mediterranean Village.

The Greek women's team has a rest day on Friday, August 21, and is scheduled to face Algeria on Saturday, August 22, at 12:00.
