Greece women's volleyball team exits EuroVolley 2026 in quarterfinals

The Greek women's national volleyball team concluded its historic run at the EuroVolley 2026 tournament after losing 3-0 to Serbia in the quarterfinals. The match, which lasted 72 minutes, ended with set scores of 25-14, 25-20, and 25-17.

This tournament marked the first time in history that the Greek team reached the final eight of the competition. However, the performance was significantly impacted by the injury of player Gogos Angelopoulou during the early stages of the second set. Following the injury, Angelopoulou was transported to a hospital in Brno for medical examinations, and Stella Giourda entered the match as her replacement.

Greece faced several roster challenges, including the absence of Fai Bakodimou and the loss of Tondai prior to departure. Despite the setbacks and the psychological impact of the injury, the Greek team remained competitive in parts of the second and third sets before Serbia's experience and scoring ability secured the victory.
