Greece working life duration increases by three years over last decade

According to Eurostat data, the expected duration of working life in Greece has increased by three years over the last decade. In 2014, the duration was 32.1 years, rising to 34.8 years in 2024, and is projected to reach 35.3 years in 2025.

This increase in Greece outpaces the European Union average, which grew by 2.3 years over the same period. Despite this growth, Greece's expected working life remains below the EU average of 37.5 years projected for 2025. While Greek workers report some of the highest weekly working hours in the EU at 39.6, their total time in the labor market is lower than many counterparts.

Several EU nations report working lives exceeding 40 years, led by the Netherlands (44 years), Sweden (43.4 years), and Denmark (42.6 years). Conversely, Romania, Italy, and Bulgaria report some of the shortest expected working lives in the union.
