Greece: WWF poll shows high concern over climate change

A new international survey conducted by the Global Methane Hub, the Yale Program on Climate Change Communication, and WWF Greece reveals significant environmental anxiety among the Greek population. According to the findings, 90% of Greeks express concern regarding climate change, with even higher levels of worry directed at extreme weather events: 94% are concerned about heatwaves and 96% are concerned about forest fires.

The research also highlights public support for climate mitigation, with 85% of respondents supporting measures to reduce methane emissions. These findings arrive as the European Union works to implement Methane Regulation (EU) 2024/1787, intended to increase transparency and accountability within the fossil fuel industry. However, the WWF noted that on October 22, the European Parliament adopted a proposal to delay certain obligations introduced by this regulation for a period of three years.

The study in Greece utilized a random sample of at least 700 individuals to measure public awareness and attitudes toward methane emissions and global climate solutions.
