Greece‑Israel strategic partnership solidifies as poll ranks Israel top ally after France

Since secret diplomatic talks in 2010, Greece and Israel have deepened cooperation across political, defence, economic, energy, technological and cultural domains. Greece maintains an independent stance toward Turkey, emphasizing that “we will not fight your wars, nor will you fight ours against Turkey.”

A recent GPO poll asked Greeks which countries they consider allies. Israel was ranked second after France, receiving 42.4% positive opinions, 29.7% neutral and 23.3% negative. Respondents separate their overall view of Israel from criticism of specific policies such as military actions in Gaza, reflecting the lasting impact of a decade‑and‑a‑half of partnership that also involves Cyprus. The survey highlights strong public backing for the Greece‑Israel axis despite regional tensions and domestic anti‑Semitic demonstrations.

Greek officials have repeatedly highlighted the strategic value of the alliance, noting collaboration in defence procurement, security, technology and energy projects, while also navigating broader geopolitical pressures from Turkey and the United States.
