Greece's 2026 economy strengthens: central bank outlook and tourism boom

The Bank of Greece’s Monetary Policy Report for 2025‑2026 says the country enters the new period in a stronger position, citing solid economic growth, fiscal and financial stability, and continued reforms backed by political steadiness. The report notes that European geopolitical shifts, energy‑price volatility and higher global inflation pose challenges, with Euro‑area inflation reaching 3.2% in May 2026 and the ECB planning a key rate rise.

Tourism data released by the central bank show a robust rebound in early 2026. Travel receipts rose 9.5% in April year‑on‑year and 36.9% over January‑April, while foreign arrivals increased 10.6% in April and 27.1% for the four‑month period. The travel balance recorded a surplus of €735.9 million in April and €1.66 billion for January‑April, underscoring the sector’s contribution to Greece’s economic momentum.
