Greece's audiovisual sector contributes €1.9 billion to economy

A new study by the Institute for Economic and Industrial Research (IOBE), funded by the Ministry of Culture, estimates that Greece’s audiovisual production sector adds roughly €1.9 billion in gross value added to the national economy. The sector supports almost 44,000 full‑time jobs and generates about €581 million in public revenue.

Each euro of direct contribution to GDP creates an additional €1.47 in the wider economy, giving a total multiplier of €2.47 per euro. Film production adds €2.67 and digital games €2.71 per euro of direct output. The sector’s gross value added reached €756 million in 2024, up 78% since 2013, while total production value hit €1.4 billion. Investment climbed from €146 million in 2013 to €390 million in 2023, placing Greece among the EU leaders in audiovisual investment intensity. Around 3,000 companies now operate in the field, employing more than 12,700 workers, with business turnover up 137% over the 2013‑2024 period.
